The older I get, I operate with the ‘less is more’ philosophy. I am not going to pepper you with every.single.product and why you need all.the.things. I don’t use all the things for either makeup, skincare, or haircare. I am sharing just my favorites! And I certainly don’t use every single thing, every single day.

Skincare

Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Serum - This is a cult favorite product that French women of all ages buy in droves. I’ve read statistics that there are thousands of bottles sold daily across France. That’s because it works to lighten dark spots, even out skin tone, and lives up to the hype. A little goes a long way, and all things considered, it’s much more reasonable than other products that promise to do the same thing - but don’t.

Fun fact: My husband has just used his first bottle after complaining that his skin (latino, brown) had more freckles and dark spots than he wanted and his skin is noticeably clearer, less spots, and more even after 1 bottle. So works for a man who’s not super precise or regular in applying it compared to say me, who’s highly organized and regimented with my skincare routine.

Good Genes by Sunday Riley - This is another cult favorite that does similar work to the Caudalie above. The lactic acid in this one also plumps wrinkles in addition to correcting spots and evening out skin texture and tone.

Caudalie Foaming Face Cleanser - Found this about 2 years ago and have not looked back. It’s perfect, clean ingredients, love it. I also grab the travel sizes to keep in my suitcase. I used to use Lancome Mousse Radiance which was sadly discontinued RIP and this is the closest thing to that but the Caudalie ingredients are much cleaner and there’s fragrance but not as strong. Light and pleasant not bold.

Vinoperfect Brightening Face Cleanser - Foaming with an AHA micropeel effect. I use this a couple times a week, and the rest of the time use the other Caudalie cleanser above.

Caudalie Toner - Pore minimizing toner that’s not harsh or stripping.

Tatcha - Dewy facial moisturizer that my daughter turned me onto and I love it.

Hair

Crown Affair Dry Shampoo - If you buy one single product this sale, this is the one! It changed my life about 3 years ago because it shaves so much time off my daily/weekly routine of washing and drying my hair. Rather than coming in an aerosol like other dry shampoos, it’s a loose powder that you brush onto your hair like you’d brush loose powder onto your face. A little goes quite a long way and you’ll have this container for a good while - and then you can purchase the refills which are less expensive! The scent is amazing. Light and fresh and truly can transform day 5-6 hair into looking like it’s day 2 hair. No joke. It’s perfect for travel because it’s not considered a liquid nor an aerosol.

The caveat here is that if you have dark hair, it may show as a bit too white. My friend Erin is brunette and gives this dry shampoo for dark hair glowing reviews!

She also says this one is great as a non-aerosol version for dark hair and I’ve heard from other blondes too who love that one.

Crown Affair Hair Drying Towel is magic! Shaves so much time off drying your hair! It’s so much better than any hair drying towel I’ve ever used. It’s not the same as the Amazon ones and everyone who I’ve ever turned this onto - daughter, friends, readers - they all end up loving it. This is a great GIFT idea for the woman who has everything!

Crown Affair Hair Perfume - I love the smell of their dry shampoo, so got the hair perfume (for days when I don’t actually need dry shampoo). It’s almost the same scent, just a little different, very lovely.

K18- Repairs hair like no other. Fried, dried, overprocessed, or underloved, this stuff is the deal.

Pureology Shampoo and Conditioner - I’ve been using this for 10 years, I try others, but always come back to it. Smells great, hydrating but also CLEANS very dirty hair without either stripping it too much or not actually cleaning it enough. It just works. There’s a reason it’s priced as it is. This is the time of the year to stock up on a liter each of shampoo and conditioner and then I’m good for the better part of a year.

Necessarire Shampoo and Conditioner - It’s marketed for thinning hair and I don’t notice a difference if it helps with thinning hair or not. I will say that it has a pretty strong scent that’s rosemary and woodsy and reminds me of an Aveda detox shampoo. And that’s how I use the Necessaire, as a buildup remover shampoo and then move onto Pureology. I always do a double or triple wash (since I only wash 1x a week) and then condition.

Dyson Supersonic Natural Hair Dryer - An investment but if you’re going to bite the bullet, may as well do it during a sale. I’ve had mine for about 3 years and love it.

Makeup

TIP: Not sure of your color? Buy something anyway now online and then go to the actual store at your leisure in the next few weeks, and have them color match you so then. At that point, you’re just doing an exchange, but you’ve locked in the discount now!

Patrick Ta Creme Foundation and Finishing Powder Duo - I cannot be bothered with a zillion steps of concealer, foundation, blending, contouring, just…NO. I don’t even bother with concealer and just use this creme foundation as my all in one. It gives coverage but still stays natural looking, and you can layer it on thicker for more coverage or just go very light and sheer. And the setting powder is in the same compact. If you’re over 40 and don’t want the look of makeup just sitting on your face or settling into your fine lines, GET THIS. It’s my #1 recommendation for skin.

Dual-Ended Brush - Patrick Ta is the best. This is perfect for cream or powder blush or bronzer. And when you’re traveling, grabbing 1 brush not 2+ thanks to the dual ended is great.

HausLabs Concealer - A more hydrating concealer that doesn’t seem to settle into fine lines and wrinkles as much and isn’t so drying like most. I used to be a diehard Nars concealer girl but switched to this a few years back on the rare occasion I conceal. But see Patrick Ta above.

Charlotte Tilbury Bronzer - Refillable bronzer that seems to last forever and does the job.

Nars Powder Blush - In Orgasm X, it’s my favorite pinky blush that I always reach for.

Patrick Ta Creme + Powder Blush - If you can’t decide if you want cream blush or powder, this is the best of both worlds set for you. One of both.

Bobbi Brown Dual-Ended Longwear Cream Eyeshadow or Moonstone is my favorite Single-Ended stick.

If you’re a person who’s never really figured out how to put on your eyeshadow OR if you’re a person with lines and creases and dry eyeshadow just sinks into the crevices, this stick is foolproof! It’s creamy, hydrating, you put it on your eyelid, blend it with your fingertip a little, and you’re done. I use the golden pink/taupe. It’s like a two-for-one because you get two colors in one stick and it lasts a long time. I’ve tried Amazon knockoffs but they don’t work nearly as well and the quality isn’t the same.

Charlotte Tilbury Brow Cheat - Been loyal to this brow pencil for a few years now and IMO it’s the best blond/light brown pencil on the market and it WILL SELL OUT in the soft brown color. So if you’re a blonde or lighter brown gal, get the soft brown color. It’s amazing! If you’re very very light (toe-headed super blonde) then go with light blonde. I find taupe to be way too ashy but I am warm not cool.

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Setting Powder - Gives the smoothest, most airbrushed look and sets everything in. Can also use it to control oil throughout the day without feeling like you’re adding more and more makeup. Great for undereye area on mature skin that’s prone to crepey-ness. This doesn’t settle into those fine lines as much.

Charlotte Tilbury Setting Spray - Hydrating, doesn’t dry you out, really locks in your makeup for hours!

Makeup Forever Lip Pencil in Wherever Walnut – If I can only have one pencil for the rest of my life, this is the one. It “goes” with almost anything you put on top of it and is very long-wearing.

Charlotte Tilbury Lip Gloss - In Pillowtalk, it’s a cult favorite for a reason. Pair it with Pillowtalk liner for best results.

Nars Hydrating Lipstick in Dolce Vita + Nars Afterglow Lip Shine Gloss in A-Lister – This trifecta of the Wherever Walnut pencil (above), this lipstick, and then this shimmery gloss with gold tones to top it off is perfection! This is the exact combo I wore in my wedding and was turned onto it by a professional makeup artist for Nars. It’s so versatile for day-to-night, casual-to-formal. It just works!

L’Oreal Mascara - This is an Amazon link because this is L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara in Carbon Black and it’s about $10 bucks. It works just as well as $30 mascara IMO, lasts the same amount of time, and I see no difference in results. I am so sick of paying outrageous prices for mascara that really isn’t superior. I used to be diehard loyal to Lancome mascara but they get really gloppy, thick, and dry quickly lately for me and I can’t justify it.

Fragrance + Body Cream

Coco Chanel Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum - I’ve been wearing this for 20 years, I get multiple compliments on it every week, to this day. When I wear other perfume, I never get compliments. Note there’s also an “intense” version (I don’t really like it very much) not to be confused with the linked one above.

There’s also a Refillable Twist and Spray Travel Perfume which is so handy, not glass, the spray nozzle twists down into the tube, so it’s not getting knocked around in your toiletry kit, and it’s just a handy setup for travel, car, gym bag, purse, etc.

Kate McLeod Solid State Moisturizing ‘Stone’ - Rub this stone-like disc all over after you get out of the shower and it just kind of melts into your skin from your body heat. It’s heavenly, really moisturizing without being greasy, and works great on my psoriasis and eczema prone skin. I love the fragrance of the ‘grounding stone’ version. They little wooden holder it comes in is practical and you can buy refills later.

Brazilian Bum Bum Firming Cream – It smells heavenly and like a tropical vacation. Stock up while it’s on sale and if you want to get the matching Body Spray, go for it. It’s so aromatic! I also love the #68 Sol de Janeiro body spray. It’s young and fresh and easy going.
