Hi Friend!

Hello! You may know me from Averie Cooks, my food and recipe site with nearly 3000 recipes that I created in 2009 but I’ve branched out!

Here on my Substack, Averie In Real Life, I’m sharing about more than just recipes. You’ll find travel tips, restaurant recommendations, book reviews, city guides, transitioning to life as an empty nester, fashion and beauty finds - a little bit of everything!

I wrote a detailed intro post about why I created Averie In Real Life and I encourage you to read that if you’re interested in more backstory.

Why subscribe & Is There a Cost?

Yes and no. Every month, I’ll post something that’s totally free to view. Everyone will have access to these posts.

Averie in Real Life is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

However, in total transparency, I plan to share more personal information here, more valuable things like restaurant guides, city guides; info about my family, my thoughts, cooking demos, Q&As, and my Real Life.

This is work that is time-consuming and labor-intensive to create, or much more personal and I don’t feel comfortable having the whole world being able to scroll-and-troll it; and therefore you’ll need to subscribe for certain posts at a cost of $5 per month, or $50 annually.

What’s The Benefit For YOU

If you’ve subscribed and want to upgrade for $5 bucks a month (recurring, and you can cancel easily at any time) or $50 annually, you can expect:

  • 100% ad-free experience. One of the things that people complain about the most in general these days is the constant barrage of ads, popups (which people confuse with ads but popups are not necessarily an “ad” and may be alerting you that I have a free Holiday Entertaining email series and by providing your email address, you’ll get the series in your inbox), but I get it. Pro Tip: If you’re interested in viewing Averie Cooks Without Ads, I have a membership there too with monthly, semi-annual, and annual plans.

  • Access to in-depth reviews. We’re talking reviews such as The Best Restaurants in San Diego, The Best Tacos in Puerto Vallarta, Why to Avoid X Activity in Paris, The Best Audiobooks I’ve Ever Listened To, and so forth.

  • Deeper and more personal writing. My only child is moving out of state for college in early August and I plan to write about this transition. I am newly-ish married to an immigrant and the immigration process is mindbogglingly difficult. More personal things of this nature that weigh on me and I want to share. Maybe some of you will have tips and similar experiences and we can all share and learn together.

  • Access to Me. I plan to do live Q&As with my audience, and I personally will answer every question/comment posted. If you’re not a member you won’t be able to post comments unless it’s a free post. I want this to be a safe space and snark-free! I figure if you’re paying a nominal amount to be here, you’ll be gentler and kinder.

  • Learn Fun Things! I’ve fallen down many rabbit holes on Substack and have learned things about my favorite cities that I didn’t know, I’ve found new books to read, I’ve caught glimpses of someone’s more personal side who I’ve always admired online, and much more. It’s fun to learn, discover, and ponder.

  • Find Other Like-Minded People. Be part of a community of people who share your interests! This is a snark-free, judgment-free, troll-free space! And gosh, that’s amazing. Participate in the comments section of posts or in the notes. It’s great to hear what books, for example, people are loving.

Stay Up-to-Date

  • Never miss an update -every new post is sent directly to your email inbox.

  • For a spam-free, ad-free reading experience, plus audio and community features, you can get the Substack app for your phone. It makes things smoother but isn’t required to read along.
